According to NASA, tonight beginning at 8:43 pm eastern standard time, we will be able to observe a partial lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse will occur at 10:01 pm and last until 10: 51 pm. The entire eclipse will last approximately 3 hours and 26 minutes. If you miss it tonight, you'll have to wait until 2010 to see one!
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the full moon passes into Earth's shadow and is blocked from the sun's rays that normally illuminate it. During an eclipse, the sun, Earth and moon line up, leaving a darkened moon visible to observers on the night side of the planet. Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is completely safe to watch. It can be seen without the use of a telescope, but NASA's Web site recommends using binoculars for a better view.

Mrs.Elmore, what if we can't see the lunar eclipse? How are we going to do our homework!?
I'll try to watch the lunar eclipse. My bedtime is 9:00 p.m., so i will stay up until maybe 9:01 and then go to bed. maybe i will just wait two more years!!! And i also am half-way finished with my paragraph. all i have to do is finish this last sentence...THEN I'll be DONE!!!

The lunar eclipse was so dark!!I can see the moon. Later, The shadow appeared more every other couple of minutes. The shadow gets darker and darker every minute!! The moon looked covered. Then the moon was completely covered!! I couldn't see one part of the moon!! The shadow was WOW!! It was so cool!! Then I went to sleep!! =]
The Lunar Eclips occured on Wednesday 2-20-08, this was the first one I'd ever seen. It was AWESOME! Looking thru my telescope I also saw Jupiter and Saturn, I even saw Saturns rings. The moon turned completely orange for about an hour. Then it slowly started to turn back to its normal white color. My family and I watched the entire eclips from our yard, and using the telescope made a huge difference. I can't wait to see the next Lunar Eclips in 2010.
